What's the minhog regarding striking the chest over the heart while saying selach lonu in shemoneh esreh? Do we do so? What about on a day in which tachanun is not said?

Every time one says Chotonu and Poshonu etc. one beats on his heart. This is done both in days one says Tachanun, and in days that one does not.

Even though the Mekor Chaim (Rabbi of Worms) writes not to strike when Tachanun is not recited, that position does not reflect Minhag Ashkenaz (Rabbi Hamburger).

The Makor Chaim (of the Chavas Yoir) and Divrei Kehillos both bring that the Minhag is to strike every time one says Chtonu or Poshanu (even in Ovinu Malkeinu etc.).
