Havdalah minhogim - wine on face and eyes?

This Minhag is mentioned already by Rav Zeligman Bing, the Talmid of the Maharil. He says the wine should be put on the face and passed on to the eyes. The reason he gives to this is because שיירי מצוה מעכבים פורענות, the remainders of the Mitzvos can postpone bad Gzeiros. Later it became more known only to pass the wine on the eyes. Another reason given was חיבוב מצוה, to show that we like the Mitzvos. Some say (while passing the wine on the eyes) מצות השם ברה מאירת עינים.
