Torah Niche was created by Daniel
It appears that just about every schul in Germany (with some exception) had what is known as a "Torah Niche"; a place where the Aron sticks out of the schul wall that is recognizable from the outside. What is the significance of the "Torah Niche" and will the new KAYJ be built in this manner? Is it the Minhag to build a schul in this fashion?

That was the practical way to design shuls, but there is no Halachic reason for this.
