Shehecheyonu - second night Rosh Hashono

The Mate Efraim (and Machatsis hashekel) writes that in the second night of Rosh Hashono, we eat the new fruit after kidush, before netilas yodoyim. Otherwise, this is a hefssek between the shehecheyonu (that is for the fruit too) and eating the fruit.
Is that the minhog in all ashkenazic comunities? (Because Mate Efraim is a basic sefer of minhogei ashkenaz).
Thanks
Chatima tova!

That was not the minhag in Ashkenaz.
In a side note, the Mate Efrayim reflects Minhogei Galicia, not Minhogei Ashkenaz, but since he was a big Posek, he had a lot of influence also in other places.
