Viewing the Shabbos candles during Kiddush Shabbos night was created by Altgold
Is there a custom to view the shabbos candles during the recitation of Shabbos night kiddush? If so, during which parts of Kiddush? What is the reason? I had learned that this had something to do with restoring one's eye sight that may have been jeopardized by taking large strides/rushing during the week.

This custom is brought by the Rm"o and his source is the Maharil. The reason is as you mentioned, to get back the eye site lost by Pesi'oh Gassoh. This is another one of the advantages of the
Shabbos Lamp
, which stands in the middle of the table in front of the one who says Kiddush.
