Is sticking a key in a challah a real Minhag? Who follows this and why? It seems very popular for some reason.

The Minhag to put a key in the Challoh on the Shabbos after Pesach is a Chasidic Minhag, brought by the Ohev Yisroel Me'apta.
It is considered a Seguloh for Parnoso. This is also the reason why it is so widespread.
