Bracha on Lightning was created by Daniel
In the Minhagim of Worms, volume II, Rav Hamburger states that the custom in Ashkenaz was to make the bracha on lightning without shem umalchus. Is this practically how it is done today?

That was the Minhag of Worms, but that isn't the general Minhag Asheknaz.
Minhag Ashkenaz was to say the Brocho on the lightning only when one hears the thunder too (to make sure it is really lightning), and then both two Brochos are said, on the lightning and the thunder (with Shem Umalchus).

Both brachos are then said back to back? Or, now that one has confirmed it is real lightning (due to the thunder), he should then make the bracha on the next lightning he sees, next thunder he hears?

However, I must admit to being confused. Rav Hamburger writes in Minhagim of Worms, (volume II, page 237, footnote 58) "...In Ashkenaz it was known to make this bracha withou shem umalchus. See Sh"ut Yifei Nof, Orach Chaim 38." Based on this it sounds like all of Ashkenaz and not something that was exclusive to Worms.
