General Question about minhogim

Why is it you stick so strictly to different ancient minhogim. Why don't you blend into the regular minhag that's practiced in nusach Ashkenaz.

גם בדורות האחרונים הקפידו רבותינו להמשיך את מסורת אשכנז, גם מתוך עמדת מיעוט מול בני שאר ארצות, כפי שהעיד החתם סופר

ברוח דברים אלה התבטאו ונהגו כמעט כל רבותינו שבאשכנז, ואנו לא סוטים מפסקיהם והנהגותיהם, אלא שמחים לשמור על המסורת האותנטית הזו, ורואים זאת לעצמנו כזכות גדולה

We, the descendants of Ashkenaz (German Jewry), have merited to be the guardians of the ancient Torah tradition. We do not have permission to abandon this for the convenience of ‘being like everybody else’ (there is important material on this in the sefer 'גדולי הדורות על משמר מנהג אשכנז'). I will suffice here with one of the famous citations of the Rosh (Rabbeinu Asher) who declined to accept the tradition of the Jews of Spain, where he resided with his family and students:
“I hold firmly to our tradition and the legacy of our forefathers, may their memory be for a blessing, the sages of Ashkenaz, to whom the Torah was an inheritance from their ancestors from the days of the destruction of the Temple, and also the tradition of our ancestors and Rabbis the sages of France, more so than the tradition of those of this land [Spain]” (Responsa of Rabbeinu Asher 20:20).

Also in later generations, our Rabbis were insistent on continuing the tradition of Ashkenaz (Germany), despite their position of then being (numerically) a minority among the greater mass of European Jewry as a whole, as the Chasam Sofer testified:
"My holy teachers and Rabbis and colleagues and holy ancestors, of blessed memory, as well as those who still live with us….blessings to Hashem yisborach, their hands were great and powerful and they are great and fine…..…most of their customs are according to R. Amram Gaon…and R. Yoel, and R. Ephraim in Bonn, and the masters of the Tosefos, and Rashi, and Maharam MiRothenberg, and the Rosh and the Tur, and what shall I continue on about this……...their customs are different to a large degree from the conclusions of the Rama, because his words were stated according to the tradition of Poland, and they (the Ashkenazim/Germans) did not change their pre-existing customs due to this (new responsa of Chasam Sofer 10)".
Almost every Sage in Ashkenaz expressed and conducted themselves in a similar manner, and we do not deviate from their Halachic rulings and customs ; rather we are happy to watch over this authentic tradition, and regard this for ourselves as a great privilege.
