Should one, according Minhag Ashkenaz, tie knots on the ends of each of the strings of the tzitzis, in order to prevent fraying?

The litvish manner of tying is identical to that used in Ashkenaz. In both edaus, there are 39 krichaus, divided by double knots as 7-8-11-13.

I contacted R' Hamburger with this question. Answer is that there is no difference.
